The coast town Puerto Lopez is by far one of the best options to visit in Ecuador. For normal tourists - Couples or families, With its easy going atmosphere and good tourist infrastructure its is a cut above the other more backpacker styled seaside resorts. Every year from mid-June through to mid-October you can also see the Humpback whales who arrive from the Antarctic ocean to give birth to their calves and mate again. Puerto Lopez has many outstanding seafood restaurants along the seafront interspersed with relaxed bars with hammocks to while away the afternoon and evening. There are many options open to you whether you would like to relax on the beach or explore the surrounding areas with its close proximity to Machallia National Park, Aguas Blancas and Isla De La Plata.
There is also the opportunity to explore under the water - with a certified PADI Diving Operators at your disposal.

Below you have an itinerary that will give you a good idea of what Puerto Lopez has to offer. We can offer tailor made programs to suit your prference and length of stay. The best way to get to Puerto Lopez from Quito is by bus - approximately 10 hours. There are 2 daily departures / morning & night. You can also take a flight from Quito to Manta and then take a 2.5 hour car transport.

The town has a beautiful relaxed feel with a wonderful balance between Tourism & Fishing. Its a good idea to end your vacation in this small paradise.

PARQUE NACIONAL MACHALILLA - 4 DAY PROGRAM With Minimum 2 pax

DAY 1) HORSE RIDING (Beach & Cloud Forest)

8:45 = Breakfast
9:30 = Departure by car to the horse range "20min" where we select a horse according to your experience level.
10:15 =We start to ride along the beach for about 7 km. Here we leave the horses and have a snack before we start a 45-60 min walk through low cloud forest. After this we ride to Hotel Almare
14:00 = A fabulous meal at Hotel Almare which shows the great panorama over the beautiful area.
15:00 = Ride back to the horse range
16:30 = Back to Puerto Lopez

DAY 2) TOUR ISLA DE LA PLATA

8:45 = Breakfast
09:30 = Departure - Motor boat
10:30 = Arrive at Isla de la Plata - Snack
11:00 = 3 hour walk to see the landscape with marine birdlife. Frigate birds, Albatross & Blue Footed - Red Footed & Nasca Boobies
14:00 = Return to boat in Bahía Drake - Rest & Box Lunch
15:00 = Snorkeling
16:00 = Return
17:30 = Back in Hostel - Puerto López

DAY 3) TOURS LOS FRAILES – AGUA BLANCA

7.45 = The Fish Market - Here you will see the days catch from the local fishermen. Everything from Squid to Merlots & Hammer Sharks etc.
8:30 = Breakfast
9:00 = Departure by car to Los Frailes Beach.
Los Frailes is actually 3 natural beaches which we reach walking through a fantastic dry forest.
We visit Arena Negra, La Tortuguita, Mirador & La Playa de Arena Blanca.
13:00 = Lunch
14:00 = AGUA BLANCA Archeological museum with ruins & a pool with vulcanic sulfur water.
17:00 = Back to the Hostel - Puerto López

DAY 4) MACHALILLA TOTAL

10:00 = Departure - Motor boats. On the way we see the marine birdlife
10:30 = Arrivial to Isla Solango Here we do Snorkeling - Short beach walk & Kayaking, Snack On the way back you can do Fishing & more Kayaking / This is a really good & relaxed program for all ages
14:00 = Back in Puerto López
