The refuge (4600m) is named after three well known Ecuadorian climbers who were killed in a 1974 avalanche. It has a permanent guardian, running water, gas stove, toilets and cooking facilities.

Day 1:
Departing around 8:30am we drive about 65km north east of Quito. The beautiful peak can be seen from a distance. Cayambe is the only snow capped mountian on the Equator. Our 4/4 vehicle takes us right to the refuge via Piamonte ranch.

Day 2:
After midnight breakfast we start the adventure. The first hour is easy rock climbing before reaching the glacier. Following the standard route (Picos Jarrin) it will take us about 6 - 8 hours. The views towards the Amazonian basin are really spectacular. Allow three hours back to the refuge getting back to Quito at about 4 pm.
